Mail Server Solutions for FreeBSD Linux and
Microsoft Windows |
| Mail Servers in Rackmount or Tower form factor
should have sufficient resources to handle the services related
to a mail server. Two crucial components are, enough processing
power and memory. The second thing is RAID, having hot-pluggable
spare drive(s) in case a drive fails and needs to be replaced
and ensuring that your mail server continues to run regardless
of the drive failure.
At a minimum you should have at least two drives
in a RAID-1 array with one cold-spare (sitting near the server).
Beyond the minimum, you might want to consider a server with the
ability to hot-swap drives and have an online hot-spare drive
waiting for one drive to fail and then to automatically rebuild
the raid array.
If it is your intention to have spam filtering and
anti-virus software running, processing power and memory come
more into play. It is not uncommon to have 8GB of memory in a
server that is running spam filtering. Naturally, the amount of
memory needed is dependant upon the amount of mail coming into
and going out of your mail server.
Protect
your investment and your time. Most disasters can be avoided
with a properly configured mail server. |
Whether you configure your mail server with software
or you have us build your mail server ready to deploy, you must
think of potential disaster situations and what you can do before
hand to reduce downtime of essential email services.
Mail Server configuration tips:
- At minimum, a RAID-1 (2-drive mirror) array.
- For a Single Processor Server, a quad-core processor
and 2GB E.C.C. Memory
- Dual Processor Server with 4GB or more E.C.C.
FBB Memory.
- Server with hot-pluggable backplane and hot-swappable
drive bays and redundant hot-pluggable power supplies.
- RAID-50 (stripe of two RAID-5 array sets, 6 drives
minimum) if using database
Customized Mail Server Applications
One of the options you will find when
you customize any of our rack mount or tower servers is BSDMaiL.
